The world, for one moment, stops dead in its tracks
As she turns her head to meet my gaze.
She reads me like an open book
And smiles.

The instant seems like an eternity
As I search for a word, any at all,
To describe the indescribable.
But before I regain my senses, she has passed by.

She stands feet away,
As she converses with friends.
I've already forgotten my previous conversation,
As I focus my world around her.

She loves life. You can see it all over her.
All of the world's cruelty has never neared her
My dreams and hopes
Have been made human.

But then she moves to his side
And waits as he talks to another,
Not caring about being ignored.
She finally tugs on his arm, and he turns.

She tells him something,
Seemingly important due to her expression,
But he sighs and turns the other way.
She grasps his hand lovingly,
But he snatches it away.

I hear her say, "I love you."

He wasn't listening.
